Bad weather didn’t put everyone off our first canal match of 2023

Bad weather didn’t put everyone off our first canal match of 2023

It was a wet and blustery start to the day on Sunday 8th January with just enough time for the 7 diehard’s to set up and start fishing at the 10:30am all in whistle on the Shropshire Union Canal between Greenfield and Tarvin Locks. It was about half an hour when the rain came down with a vengeance with everyone rushing for their brollies. Despite the weather brightening up in the afternoon, the heavy rain together with boat movement through the locks the fishing was hard.

At the all out whistle at 3pm it was Mark Parry who took the pot with 10oz 12dr with a three way split for second place with 7oz 12dr each.  This was also the final match of our canal winter league consisting of 6 matches over the early winter months with the highest 5 results achieved by participants counting to the final position. Frank Duckers following his 9 points from this final match won the league on 44 points with Brian Allen coming second on 41.
